We’ll meet you at the airport and transfer to Isabela Island with a short small aircraft flight. After settling in at Casa Baronesa, you’ll sit down to a gourmet lunch with your guide and plan your activities. How you spend the next few days is up to you. Whatever activities you choose, you’ll enjoy fresh gourmet meals, sublime tropical beaches, Casa Baronesa’s beautiful beachfront lounge, and attentive service from your guest coordinator and private service staff. (L,D day 1; B,L,D day 2-4)
ISABELA ISLAND ACTIVITIES:
Snorkel Tintoreras Islets: Across the bay, Tintoreras is a group of small, rocky islets, home to the famous Galapagos penguin and lots of pristine, secluded beaches and coves. Explore the secrets of this fascinating environment and snorkel with rays, marine turtles, and tropical fish.
Coastal Ecosystems Hike or Bike: Setting out north of the hotel, you’ll embark on a hike or ride through an incredible variety of coastal ecosystems. You will find miles of white sand beaches, thick mangrove forests, lava tubes, brackish lagoons, and an intoxicating poison apple forest. As you hike or ride, you will observe giant tortoises, flamingos, blue-footed boobies, and other wildlife. We’ll also prepare a romantic picnic lunch in one of our secret hideouts along the coast. Your hike or ride ends at the Wall of Tears. This towering, isolated wall of lava rock is a relic of Isabela’s history as a penal colony.
Sierra Negra Volcano Hike: Isabela is formed by six active shield volcanoes, which makes it one of the planet’s most volcanically active places. One of its most spectacular volcanoes is Sierra Negra. We’ll drive up the flanks of this giant until the road ends, and then continue on foot through a surreal volcanic landscape until we reach the rim of the breathtaking, six-mile-wide crater, where you’ll take in stunning views of the surrounding volcanoes and sea.
Snorkel Concha de Perla Bay: The sheltered waters and biodiversity of this small bay make Concha de Perla a perfect spot for some relaxed wildlife snorkeling. As a sea lion colony watches you from the shore, you will observe a great variety of marine life, including sea turtles and tropical fish.
Tortoise Breeding Center Visit: With over 300 tortoises from six subspecies, the Arnaldo Tupiza tortoise breeding center is one of the most important centers working to preserve and reintroduce endangered giant tortoise populations. The tortoises are kept in beautiful gardens of native plants. During your visit, you will learn more about the distinct evolutionary paths of each giant tortoise subspecies, as well as the details of ongoing tortoise preservation efforts.
In addition to these included activities, you are always welcome to check out bikes to ride around town, relax or stroll on the beach, and kick back in Casa Baronesa’s beautiful beachfront living room. You may also opt to set up other activities, including fishing trips, visits to nearby islands, surf lessons, and more. Your guide and guest coordinator are happy to plan any other activities or excursions you desire.
DAY 5: TRANSFER TO BALTRA ISLAND AIRPORT
All good things must come to an end, and today it’s time to bid a fond farewell to these enchanted islands, home to memories you’ll never forget. After breakfast and one last walk on the beach, a small aircraft takes you back to Baltra Island to connect with your flight to the mainland. (B)
